Our Orthodontic Options

Our orthodontists offer multiple types of braces and orthodontic appliances to allow you to correct your smile exactly as needed

Traditional Braces

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces use metal brackets bonded to the front of your teeth and wire connecting them all together to slowly and gradually pull your teeth into their correct positions. For fixing jaw misalignment, we can also use elastic bands hooking your top and bottom braces together to bring your jaw into place.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic, or “clear,” braces are similar to metal braces except they are much more inconspicuous. Unlike their nickname suggests, clear braces are not actually clear but tooth-colored. Rather than attaching metal brackets to your teeth, ceramic ones are used instead to blend in with your smile. We also use thinner wires to tighten your mouth into alignment, allowing the full appearance of your braces to be disguised and well-hidden.

Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear aligner trays that gently move your teeth’s positions. Each aligner is changed every 2 weeks to gradually shift your smile without any pain or discomfort. Invisalign trays are removable and only need to be worn 22 hours per day. There are no food restrictions or special dental hygiene instructions to allow you flexibility in your daily life you can’t get with bracket braces.

Palatal Expanders

Palatal Expanders

For some children, there isn’t enough space in their mouth to fit all of their incoming adult teeth. To make more room, an orthodontist can widen their mouth using a palatal expander. During this treatment, a metal appliance is affixed to the upper teeth, spanning the entire roof of their mouth. A key is then used to extend the device, allowing us to gradually expand their mouth’s width.

The Benefits of Straight Teeth

Braces and clear aligners make your teeth look amazing...but they also give you so many more benefits, too

At Gold Coast Dental Riverside, our orthodontists want you to get the most out of your smile. There are a wide variety of amazing benefits that come with braces and Invisalign treatment. The advantages of straight teeth include: Improved appearance - A beautiful smile can remake your overall appearance, and it can make a great first impression. Better confidence. Having a smile you love can be a huge self-esteem booster, making you proud to show off your hard-earned pearly whites. Healthier smile - With your smile in alignment, it can be easier to brush and floss your teeth, preventing cavities and tooth decay.

Daily comfort - Bite and teeth alignment problems can put undue pain and stress on your jaw, causing chronic headaches and neck pain. These problems can disappear with orthodontic treatment. Easier eating - Overbite, underbite, and crossbite can make it difficult to chew properly. Correcting your bite allows the joints and muscles in your jaw to work more effectively. Orthodontic Plates: The Braceless Aligning Alternative

Straightening your teeth doesn’t always require braces. We can help you perfect your smile with orthodontic plates

Orthodontic plates, also known as retainers, are mostly thought of as only the after-treatment for braces and clear aligners. However, you may be surprised to learn that they can straighten your teeth as well when only minimal treatment is needed. This solution is simple and effective for patients who want to perfect their smiles but don’t need or want months of orthodontic braces to meet their goal.

At Gold Coast Dental Riverside, your orthodontic plates will gently shift your teeth into alignment each time we tighten the metal wiring across the front of your teeth. This wire is attached to a plastic plate molded to the shape of your mouth, ensuring your teeth always move to their proper place. A teeth retainer is great for correcting: limited overcrowding, slightly crooked teeth, teeth that stick out. Retainers can be

either fixed to the back of the teeth or completely removable. Fixed plates are glued into place with dental cement. Removable retainers, however, can be taken out when eating or during special occasions, making them ideal for patients who want to straighten their teeth as unobtrusively as possible. Are you ready for the smile of your dreams without braces? Contact our Riverside office today at (951) 688-6000 for an orthodontic consultation.

  • What happens if you don't wear Invisalign for a whole 24 hours?

Your Invisalign trays should be worn as close to 24/7 as you can and at least 22 hours each day to be fully effective. While your orthodontist will be gradually shifting your smile into shape, your teeth’s alignment will be especially malleable throughout your treatment. Without near-constant pressure from your clear aligners, your teeth will want to go back to their starting positions. For patients who don’t wear them the required amount, their total treatment time may be expanded by weeks and even months to catch up on all of your lost progress.

  • How long does orthodontic treatment last?

Your treatment duration depends on the severity of your alignment problems and the appliance used. With both metal and clear braces, treatments often take between 18 months and 3 years. Invisalign treatment is often a bit faster, taking 12 to 18 months on average. After straightening your teeth, you should then wear a teeth retainer for at least a year to hold your smile in place until your teeth become used to their final positions.

  • Are clear aligners effective?

Clear aligners are extremely effective for mild to moderate orthodontic issues. Not only do they fix the same root issues as traditional straightening methods, but in many cases, treatment can be completed months faster.

  • What age is best for braces?

Braces treatment works best when you’re still young and your mouth and jaw are changing and developing. This tends to be between the ages of 8 and 14 years old. During this time, many or all of a child’s baby teeth have been replaced with permanent ones, and their jaws are more pliable to corrective treatment than when they’re older. If your child needs early orthodontic work done, our kids’ orthodontists can make the whole process easy and smooth for them.

  • Is it normal for adults to get braces?

It is extremely common for adults to straighten their smile with orthodontic treatment, but you just might not have noticed it! While some patients use standard metal braces, many others choose more unobtrusive options like ceramic braces or Invisalign to secretly align their smile. Adult orthodontic work is so common, in fact, that even an A-lister like Tom Cruise used clear braces to correct his Hollywood smile.

  • What can you not eat while wearing braces?

With bracket braces, you should be careful with what you eat to prevent bending wires or popping the brackets off. To keep everything in order throughout your treatment, you should avoid hard and crunchy foods like popcorn, nuts, and hard candy; sticky foods like chocolate and gum; and tough or chewy foods like bagels, taffy, and beef jerky. Other foods such as raw vegetables and fruits, corn on the cob, and burgers should be cut into smaller, more manageable pieces.
